Carhartt was founded in 1889 making clothing for manual labourers – it’s certainly come a long way! 

Originally famous for its full-cut, wind-resistant, snag-proof, heavy-duty work jackets Carhartt clothing items have evolved trademark features intended to extend durability, including the use of heavy-duty thread, reinforcing rivets at stress points, and a variety of durable, high technology materials resistant to flame, abrasion, and water.

But while continuing with these basic characteristics, Carhartt also worked on expanding its client base, women’s workwear and Carhartt Work In Progress (WIP) is the streetwear version of the Carhartt brand. Carhartt Clothing is made to fit ordinary working people- not willowy models. Wide shoulders and high waists has made it a favourite of the hip hop community in New York, worn by Rappers like Tupac and Dre. It is the go-to workers uniform in film- seen modelled by Liam Neeson, Matthew McConaughey on screen and even worn, on occasion, by Barack Obama.
